COVID-19 UPDATE

First and foremost, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our loyal clients for showing us patience and kindness in what has proven to be a very difficult past year. Please understand that we are not yet back to business as usual and that we have implemented protocols to ensure the safest experience possible for you and your pet during this time.

What to Expect:
Appointments

Appointments can be scheduled for clients of West Kootenay Animal Hospital by calling our clinic at 250-364-1910. All appointments must be scheduled, we do not see drop-ins. As a team and with the guidance from the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia (CVBC), we have made the decision to not have clients in the hospital for appointments. This means you will drop your pet off with us for the duration of the appointment and the doctor will call you and consult with you over the phone during the appointment. To accommodate this protocol, we had to extend appointment times.  Expect to be at the clinic anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour. We do ask for clients to stay at the clinic during the appointment but if you do leave, please have your phone on you so we can get ahold of you.

At this time, we are currently booking 6 to 8 weeks out for annual checkups and vaccine appointments. We are booking approximately 2 months out for all elective procedures (spays, neuters, dentals, etc).

You will get an email, text or phone call reminder prior to your scheduled appointment. This reminder will go over our COVID screening questions and if you answer YES to any of the questions, please give the clinic a call. The reminder will also give you information on our appointment protocol. When you arrive to the clinic, please give us a call and let us know you are here. Do NOT leave a message on our voicemail as we do not get to them right away. Our clinic is very busy and you sometimes may need to call multiple times to get through. Once we know you are here and the doctor is ready, we ask that you bring your pet into the foyer at the front of the office where a receptionist will meet you and bring your pet into an exam room where the doctor will then give you a call.

Food and Medication Refills and Pickups
You can place food and/or medication refills online through our website at www.wkanimalhospital.com or by calling the clinic. We have a voicemail for food/prescription refills so if you cannot get through, please leave a message and we will get back to you. We place orders 3 times a week and the orders typically arrive the following day. For medication refills, we ask that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice.

When you arrive to the clinic to collect your items, please come to our side door on the right hand side of the building. We have a doorbell for you to ring and a member of reception will greet you. If you are able to pre pay for your items by calling in a MasterCard/Visa or sending an e-transfer to wkahstaff@shawbiz.ca that would be greatly appreciated.

Masks, Hand Sanitization & Cleaning Protocols
We ask that all clients wear a mask when dropping off their pets for appointments or when coming to the side door for food and/or medication pickups. Hand sanitizer is placed at the main entrance and the side door. Our hospital follows the highest standard for cleaning and we have expanded that cleaning protocol to high contact surfaces (debit machines, door handles, etc).

Thank you again for all your ongoing support, kindness and encouragement. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please contact West Kootenay Animal Hospital directly at 250-364-1910 or wkahstaff@shawbiz.ca.
