Bentley is a young miniature dachshund with an unusual condition. In early June he developed swelling, crusting and bleeding at the tips of both ears. The eat margins (or edges) developed small, painful cracks causing Bentley to flap and shake his long ears resulting in bleeding. To discover the cause of Bentley’s abnormal ears, biopsies of the ear margin was done. The diagnosis was Proliferative Thrombovascular Necrosis. While the underlying cause of this rare condition is not well known, it is thought to be an immune mediated disorder. Bentley is now on medication to control the condition and alleviate his pain.
