"Ripley" Winckers + "Lady" Geick
This month we are featuring two special dogs, “Ripley” Winckers and “Lady” Geick. Ripley and Lady were both blood donors recently. Blood transfusions can be a lifesaving procedure for our pets in a variety of situations. Trauma and severe bleeding, life threatening anemia, platelet and coagulation defects and sometimes plasma is used in patients with severe protein loss.
Both Ripley and Lady can donate about 350ml of blood to help a dog with autoimmune anemia. In Trail we are not close to an animal blood bank, so we rely on staff and client pets to act as blood donors. If you are interesting in your dog becoming a blood donor talk to us – they can be a “pet hero” too!
